The port is currently proposing a major multi-million Euro redevelopment plan that would widen and deepen the entry channel and create 660 meters of new quay with berthing facilities for general cargo vessels, oil tankers, passenger vessels, fishing vessels and container vessels. The proposed plans also include a marina, Ro/Ro facilities, berths for naval and research vessels, and the construction of breakwaters.
Currently the port is limited to vessels of 6,000 DWT or less.
